Ihuraua and Waitioro Rivers (confluence) April 20, 1858 My dear Sir, I beg to enclose you my Salary warrant for this month --- April. I shall be much obliged to you to sign and forward it to Mr. Kennedy as before. I have nearly completed the eastern boundary of this Ihuraua Block, expecting to begin the south line towards the Mangaone river (which forms the Southern Bound) in a day or two. We have had some wet days, on an average one a week, but on the whole, the weather has been favorable. The natives have worked with fair spirit. The Land is throughout excellent, but the valley of the Ihuraua is subject to heavy floods along its whole course. I remain, my dear Sir, Yours very truly, S. Kempthorne Donald McLean Esqre. Chief Commissioner etc. etc. etc.
