Auckland, 4 Jany., 1846. My Dear McLean, I have just a moment to write you that the Governor returned from Wellington two days ago and therefore you will not see him at Wanganui for some time. We have re-opened the Overland Mail to your settlement, which we hope you will be glad of at Taranaki. You may be called on by Capt. King to lend some assistance by your Police force in commencing the communication and perhaps for a short time in carrying it on, which of course you will gladly do. We have accounts from England to the 19th of Sept. but no intelligence of any consequence. I have had a very long and interesting letter from Hamilton who went home you know with Capt. Fitz Roy. The ship was nearly lost in the Straits of Magellan, and was five months in reaching home. Capt. Fitz Roy was kindly welcomed home by the Duke of Grafton and all his relatives and friends. Instead of a longer letter I send you a Glasgow Newspaper. I remain, Yours truly, A. Sinclair.
