Auckland January 17th. 1870. My dear McLean, Brannigan is gotting copies of Firth's Messases made for you, and I think It so important that you should know the exact whereabouts of Te Kooti, and of his dispositions, that I send the ''Edith'' with the news. You will see that I have told Firth of your absence, and made a reply of which I hope you will approve. Te Kooti has got into, or very nearly into, a trap, where I think he may be caught; and it appears that he begins to think so himself. I have taken the telegrams to the Governor, who seems to approve of Firth's views of the case. The Airedale has not yet arrived. I am yours very truly, (Signed) .... Pollen. To:-- The Hon. D. McLean Tauranga,
