4 September 1868 Ashburton My dear brother I send you a few lines by John who starts today for Wellington and I shall remain hear till he comes back. He has everything in good order and a good little run. I am much pleased to se the faimeley so well taken care of. Before I go up I intend to have a look at the different sheep washings places and drafting yards and all that I can se. I hope all is going on well at station. They had rough weather their since we left. Fearful weather down hear. My cash is getting low leaveing home without any clothes to ware. £20 will not go far to pay for maney little things I wanted besides traveling expences as I want a good suit of clothes as I can get them down hear not to allways buying rags. I wish you would send me £20 pounds as soon as you can hopeing you are all well. In haste. Yours allways Alex McLean
