Septr. 1. 69. My Dear McLean, I have looked over those papers very carefully and made some memoranda regarding them I think the matter worthy of serious consideration and have therefore given my best attention to it. I shall therefore be ready to talk it over quietly with you when ever you are at leisure and look at it from different points of view those of doing something, and doing nothing, both courses involving the necessity of care and consideration. I see Mr. Williams by his carefully avoiding any opinion on the matter recognises the importance, as I do, of the subject. I however can see through the whole affair and whatever course you take I think I can give you a few hints in the way of information which may be of service. I am your very truly, F.E. Maning. P.S. I shall be at leisure all today, but shall be engaged tomorrow. I hope not after.
