Wairoa May 4th 69 4 p.m. Dear Sir, I am obliged at the eleventh hour to write instead of getting down in the Steamer and seeing you personally - I am unwilling to write one half of what the real circumstances are here - The letters I forward you will go somewhat towards an explanation - I pressed Mr. Richmond very strongly to give me a passage, but he refused alleging it a matter of duty to do so - the reason for so doing is obvious - I have done all in my power and can take care of myself - at the same time I would ask you to wait my arrival before assenting to an proposition whatever - I make no bad guess as to the present posture of affairs - and half an hour's conversation will do more than any amount of writing - I simply send these three lines to explain why I am not in Napier by this Steamer - I beg to remain Dear Sir Your obed. servt. Geo. B. Worgan D. McLean Esq. Napier The natives all look to me to go to Napier to explain things to you - indeed you will see as much in their letters - G.B.W.
