Wairoa January 11th. 1869 Dear Sir, My letters to you, of the 9th. were left behind by the Orderly, owing to some mischance. Ihaka has arrived this morning, in consequence of reports of the fires seen at Te Kiwi, etc., In order to obtain reliable information as to the alleged facts, I sent Mr. Felix Golet, who Knows the country well, to go as far as Takurangi, and bring me word if any movement is really taking place. He has not returned as yet. To prevent future misunderstanding, I should be glad to learn as to whether the Officer in charge of the few European Troops here. is to be considered sole judge of what is valuable or reliable information; and worthy of being forwarded to the Government. I submit that the Officer in Charge may be a competent judge, but that must entirely depend on whom, for the time being, that Officer may chance to be. I have the honor to remain, Sir, Your obedient servant (Signed) Geo. Worgan. To:- His Honor D. McLean Esq.
