The Makiri, Kaipara 6th Novr., 1871 My dear Sir, I am not able to write, have done no work for a long time. Got cold on the Coach and can't get rid of it laid up in bed. Down to the depths below. Am lost or next to it, wish myself anywhere but where I am. Managed to send you a short report of Waipaoa Court at last. Am surrounded by too many of my friends who are smothering me. I wish you could get me a pension I would be off some where. How are you doing, I wish the Cession w over - I am afraid Kaipara and this large block of useless land will bring me to ruin in a short time. Take away my office and I am done at once. I should like to hear from you once more - Am not able to go out as yet. The Railway is going on. They will ruin my place by taking it round the Pa. Mrs. Farr is always asking for you. She is growing altogether too stout. Destroy this at once - I am Ever yours J. Rogan P. S. Could you let Mr. Ormond also see this? W. C.
