Auckland November 25th 1859 My dear McLean, I was truly delighted to see again the scratch of your broad nib. The Govr. shewed me your's of the 13th reporting progress - ere this, you are I trust, in comfortable quarters in Wellington daily gaining strength - and shall wait to hear that you are yourself again or something like it before bothering you with business - lest I get a worse character than your Maori friends - You will hear that Governor is about visiting the south - he leaves on the 27th in the ''Niger'' from the Manuka proceeding to Nelson to lay the foundation stone of the College on the 1st of Decr. - he will leave about the 5th for Waitohi then on to Otago direct where he will probably be between the 14th and 21st - he then comes on to Canterbury hoping to get there by the 25th - leaves about 5th Jany. and so home calling in at Turanga on the way I mention the route and dates in case you may wish to communicate with H. E. - Bell goes down to Turanga next month to investigate the claims of the settlers. He has just looked in as I am writing and sends love and is very sorry to hear of your illness - Many enquiries are made and kind messages sent - James Fulloon begs to be mentioned as among the number of enquirers. I find I am again driven up into a corner and that the mail is just closing - so must close also with assurance of my sincere sympathy and best wishes for your speedy restoration - Rogan is at Kaipara or he would write. Believe me, Dear McLean Ever fai thfully yours Thos. H. Smith
