Wellington August 1st/65 My Dear McLean, Since I wrote I have seen Ministers and made the most of our case. Weld will write you particulars. He promises that a force should go to Opotiki immediately Wanganui is settled, which will be in a few days. I will keep them up the mark. Grey is going to give us a Regiment at Napier for the winter. This has been decided in consequence of the strong representation I made in my last letter on the opportunity of Tareha's meeting, backing up your former application. I am not quite satisfied myself about the certainty of the Regiment so dont make it public at present. Weld particularly told me Grey wd. not like it to be made public until he has given the necessary directions for it to the General. I am not sure if this will catch the Star of the South. Dont' make too little of the Tareha meeting in writing to the Govt. if you do we shall lose the chance of the Regiment. In haste, Yours always, J. D. Ormond
