Govt. House 31st Octr., 1860 Sir, As some alarm may have been occasioned among the inhabitants in consequence of a report that 400 armed natives were expected to arrive at Patumahoe with hostile intentions. I have much pleasure in informing you that no danger need be apprehended by the outsettlers and I have to request that you will take such steps as you may deem advisable to remove apprehension on the part of the inhabitants as to the objects of this party which as far as I can gather are not of a hostile nature.
