Te Hatepe 11th. April 1867. My dear Sir, It is my painful duty to announce the death of poor old friend Kopu, He expired this morning at about 8 a.m. He was quite unconcious for some time previous to his death. His last words were expressing his love and friendship to the Pakeha. I am too much cut up to say much, but I think if you have not got further than Mohaka, it would be better if you were to return. I am my dear Sir, truly yours (Signed) L. S. Deighton.
