Napier, Novbr. 17. 1863 My dear McLean, I am much obliged for your note and hope that all will go well, during your absence. perhaps you would be good enough to drop me a line by the return steamer if you can learn any thing in Auckland as to the of the General being to send more Troops to Hawkesbay the arrival of re-inforcements - I hope nothing may arise to call for Troops being sent in land during your absence because you are, no doubt aware, that my instructions are, to send them only on your requisition. but of course if the Natives were to rise, or any thing of that sort, Why the troops as a matter of course would act in defence of the settlers and the Flag - I dont think of any thing that I want in Auckland just at present and hoping that you may have a good passage, Believe me in haste, Yours truly, W.Dwyier (?)
