Castle Point, Tuesday, 30th, March, 1852. My dear Sir, I have just returned from surveying a portion of the Block, which I was compelled to do although te Hapuku was absent the natives would have returned to Wairarapa if I had not acceded to their requests, I am now daily expecting Hori niania, Te Hapuku and Puhara, then we start. I wished the Southern boundary of the Block to be the Warehama river from its junction with the Ocean but could not get, the owner of the land being absent, so they tell me. They are not such good natives to deal with as the Ahuriri natives, very inquisitive, in fact they know too much. The first block will end at Matai kona so they tell me, now it will take a very long time to cut the back line all bush the Tararua range will be near enough I should think, I wish you would write and tell them so, as one cutting bye and bye will do both for raod and survey line and if I take time cutting a back line wet will come and we shall not get on as fast as you and I wish, and I should require axes etc. for such work that I have not got it is a survey of much more difficulty that the Ahuriri Survey - will you please to sign the requisitions for Mr. Levin monthly. I hope Mrs. McLean and yourself are well and happy, Yours very truly, C.H. Louis Pelichet.
