Wairoa, Sep. 14th,/65. My dear Sir, I shall not be able to leave this before Monday morning so I hope to be in Port on Wednesday. I did intend leaving in the Vivid but I find I cant possibly get my work done before Saturday I presume however by my not hearing from you that I have not been wanted yet. This place is in a fearful state and will require a tight hand for some time to keep it in order - I had a large Runanga at Paoras place Kopu was there - everybody agreed to leave off selling grog, but whether they will stick to their word or not I cant say I hope they will however - Everything is quite quiet, I hope you got the signatures all right - I sent them down by my brother. I am, Sir, Faithfully yours, S. Deighton.
