Auckland March 23rd 1868 My dear Mr.McLean, I would like to have your advice as to how I ought to proceed in order to gain some information as to what the Govt. intend to do with regard to our survey of the Confiscated land at Waikari and the surrounding district --- I think that you are pretty well aware of our position and will be able to advise me how to proceed --- It is really a matter of the greatest importance for us, to know when the Govt. will be able to pay us, as owing to the way that things have gone at Turanga, and the amount of expense that we have incurred, we find ourselves very much in want of money. It is now more than sixteen months since that survey was completed, we have never received any compensation for our trouble and we were put to heavy expenses in order to complete the survey which was over an exceedingly rough and inaccessible country --- Our bill amounts to £952.12, but we would be glad to have a portion of it immediately say one half when perhaps we might be able to wait a little longer for the remainder. Hoping to see you soon I am, dear Sir, Yours faithfully William Busby
