Dear McLean Many thanks for the news such as it is. Contrary or not contrary to their traditions I feel little doubt about the result. If our people faithful the H. H.'s will surrender I feel sure. I will be down at Capt. Russell's today as early as I can. What a bore the C.D.F. is discharged just when wanted - I hope we may be able to avoid any collision, but if the alternative presents itself there can be no doubt that in what is done, and with such means as you have you have acted with an energy and decision very few of these crawling flinching politicians understand and if they did understand are incapable of imitating. I trust to make Redcliffe by 10 or sooner. Yours ever sincerely G. S. Whitmore 8 Oct. 66 Should I send Green down? I think I'll try and take him if I've time. G. S. W.
