Oct. 29, 1868 Sir, I have the honor to inform you that I herewith transmit four English letters and colonial papers. Mr. Ormond went home on Tuesday with his family. Bousfield showed me a letter from Col. Whitmore to him, telling him to go to the Col. Secty and he would receive employment - (from what I could make out) - in making a Military Survey at Patea and elsewhere, People or rumour says that Col. Whitmore will most likely settle on the West Coast if he can dispose of his or rather Col. McNeill's run. I expect the action he has taken in favor of Bousfield is a return for the letters written in his favor by that gentleman - and also to blazen to the Public of the West Coast Col. Whitmore's military achievements on that coast. I should not be at all surprised to hear after a couple of months of Bousfield writing as furiously against Col. Whitmore as he formerly would for him. I enclose a copy of a Telegram recd. this afternoon, and the reply. I also send your Honor a copy a translation of a despatch recd. this afternoon from Taupo There is nothing further that I can convey to your Honor only the desire of the people for your success. I have the honor to be sir, Your most obtl st. Geo. Thos. Fannin
