16 August 1859 Maraekakaho My dear brother I received a note from you by James wishing me to bring over some horses for sale to the natives. I should like much to sell some but I have the sheep in the pens tonight to draft in the morning or I should go over tomorrow. Rich is up for the last of his wether till affter shearing and I am getting Macar[t]hy and Domet's taken out which will all day tomorow and all other sheep that is to be taken out of the flock. We have about six or seven acres of grass well got in and if the weather takes up we shall soon have all in. I got a start the other day I was told that a party wanted forty acres on the Maraekakaho for to build a house of accommodation and the onley place oppen was 40 acres between the woolshed and the stream so I went down and bought it the onley place that has aney frontage to a road or river on the run left. I shall be over on Saturday if I can to se you in haste. Your allways affectionate brother Alexander McLean
