McLean Your Honor will remember asking if I thought Puke and Watene would take money for the land today I was talking to Puke and Roera about the land and asked them if money would not do as well the money would do as well and better the only drawback seems to be is that Raupuraha and the Nati toas have ben alredy praparing to sell it to you that if they agreed to sell it now to your Honor the Nati Raukawas would be wanting them to devide the money with them another thing I found out is that the Nati Huias and these are working together for the court gave Kemp a pice of the Nati Huias land so they are working together to get all back the pice of land taken from Nati Huia belongs to one man and only about two or three hundred acres the man himself could be easly brought over those combinations are the worst to get over it will take time if they can only be kept quiet for a while the old Hoiha of Nati Huia was with us he sayed he wanted this said pice of land back I sayed to him the money would be better than that land its only sand he laughed, at the same time they spoke of tautika and her sister wanting to sell it before and they are afread your Honor will be be listing to them now they say just as I told your Honor the other day that Tautika has nothing to do with the land the reale owners is Pomare and his wife but Watene has full authority to look afterit I heard Pomare tell them all when he left to go home the mana of the land is in my hands but I let you all live on it and Watene my father I leave you in charge of it these are his last words I can asure your Honor if Watene Puke and Roera could be sepprated from the others and go by themselves the thing could be don with money I am sure they will say more to me than to any white person as I have lived so long with them they dont like that aney others should have aney thing to say in this affair but themselves Roera sayed today I have nothing to do with the land only an acount of my people thats ben buried here Watene and Puke is all that has a right to say anything I send this as I have heard it if it should be of aney use to your Honor I shall be very glad I should have gone to see you Honor myself but the Muaupokos wished me to stop at home they think they are safe if I am here I could explain things better than I can write it as I am but a poor writer.
