Mortality. The following statement of average mortality experienced during the years 1918-22 is given herewith, but it takes no account of age incidence : —
Sick and Funeral Funds. The contributions and entrance fees paid to Sick and Funeral Funds in 1922 amounted to £141.,737. Divided by the mean number of members the average for 1.922 was £1 15s. 9d., as compared with £1 15s. lid. in 1921. The interest and rent received by the lodges and central bodies amounted to £120,938 in 1922, equal to £1 10s. 6d. per member, as against £1 9s. sd. for 1921. The amount of sickness benefit paid was £94,547 in 1922, equal to £7 Bs. 3d. per member sick, and £1 3s. lOd. per member, as against £7 lis. sd. and £1 3s. Ild. respectively for 1921. Viewing the amount paid in relation to the weeks of sickness, the average benefit per week is found to be 13s. in 1.922, the same as in .1921. The funeral benefit paid amounted to £28,793 in 1922, equal to 7s. 3d. per member, as compared with 6s. Bd. for 1921. The total worth of the Sick and Funeral Funds of 746 lodges at the beginning of 1922 was £2,164,011, and at the end of the year £2,308,155. The balance of gain for the year was £144,144, or £1 16s. 4d. per member, in 1922, as compared with £126,457, or £.1 13s. 3d., in 1921. Investment of Funds. The net income from investments credited to the Sick and Funeral Funds for 1922 amounted to £120,938, the average rate being £5 lis. 2d. per cent., as against £5 9s. 4d. in 1921. Trade-unions. Two trade-unions were registered during the year—viz.. the Te Papapa Chemical Manure Workers' Union (Onehunga) and the Otago Tramways Trade Union (Dunodin). The following registration was cancelled by request: The Paparoa Coal-miners' Trade-union of Workers (Blackball). Complete amendment of rules was registered during the year —viz., New Zealand Locomotive Engineers', Firemen, and Cleaners' Association. There were 32 unions on the register at the end of the year.
