REPORT OF PRIVILEGES COMMITTEE (APPENDIX TO THE).
TELEGRAM FROM SIR G. M. O'RORKE, KNIGHT, AND LETTER EROM MR. J. G. GREY, OP HANSARD STAFF, RELATIVE TO EVIDENCE GIVEN BEFORE THE PRIVILEGES COMMITTEE OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Laid on the Table of the House, 25th September, 1893, and ordered to be printed as an Appendix to the Beport of the Privileges Committee.
Telegram from Sir G. M. O'Eoeke, K.C.M.G., Auckland, to George Feiend, Esq., Clerk of the House of Eepresentatives, Wellington. Before Privileges Committee incorrectly stated that Colonel de Quincey was appointed Sergeant-at-Arms by me absolutely. Appointment was made by the Governor, vide Gazette, 31st October, 1889. Please apprise Mr. Speaker. Maurice O'Eoeke, 19th September, 1893. Auckland.
Letter from Mr. J. G. Gbey, of Hansard Staff, Wellington, to the Hon. the Speaker, House of Eepresentatives, Wellington. Sic, — Hansard Office, 22nd September, 1893. In perusing the evidence given before the Privileges Committee, I notice that it is there made to appear as though I had joined the Parliamentary service in 1879, whereas I joined it three years earlier. In April, 1876, I was appointed a permanent Committee Eeporter. In those days, to be first a Committee Eeporter was made the sine qua non of promotion to Hansard, and that promotion came, as stated in the evidence, in 1879. I am now in my eighteenth year of Parliamentary service, instead of fifteen only, as would appear from the evidence given before the Privileges Committtee ; and, if possible, I should like that correction to be made, or otherwise officially pointed out. I have, &c, The Hon. the Speaker. J. Geattan Geey.
