CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
To the Editor
Sdr,—-A cattle fair was bpld on Wednesday last, and cattle which probably were on the road from fh<? previousMonday are still in the paddocks adjacent to the yards, with no feed . whatever. Surely, sir. it is somebody : » business to see that these animals are not starved. The poor beasts are making the night hideous with Uieir bellowing. Is there not som<* raw in existence requiring the clearance of stock from saleyards and their adjacent accommodation within, a specified-time 1 ? If so, why is it not enforced? AnOthei-
fair is to bo held next week, and are the same conditions to be allowed to continue? I see that good progress is being made with the new yards. Surely, sir, it is not in the interests of the Borough to allow a new set of yards to bjP. C eeted therein. Why not outside the Borough, and have the existing yards transferred also? There is much talk about the scarcity of building sites in the township, yet here are some of the best sites being held up by what has already become of public nuisance and a positive menace to
public health. Our Civic. Fathers should wake up to this /act. Trusting 4*at further inquiries will be made into the conditions above noted, and an attempt at least made to mitigate them.— I am, etc. HUMANITARIAN,
