TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION TOR RETURNED SOLDIERS.
At the meeting of the Taihaps School OmmlDee last night one of tk 3 members Sergeant-Major De Loree) asked the charknan if there was any possibility, or whether any arrangements had ooen made, or could be made, wnereby returned soldiers could receive technical instruction in Taihape to enable them to earn their own living lie had had inquiries from returned men in this connection, and noticed that in several other places professional men had voluntarily offered to give instruction in book-keeping, typewriting, and other occupations. He asked the chairman if anyone in Taihape had offered to do the same. The Chairman said as far as he was aware, the local Technical School was not in a position at present to give technical instruction to returned soldiers; as for any voluntary instruction in the subjects named by Sergeant-Ma-jor De Loree by any Taihape gentlemen he was not in a position to answer. He was quite in sympathy with the idea, and would make inquiries, as he felt that something should be done for onr returned soldiers who were incapacitated from doing hard work. As far as technical schools in small'towns wee concerned, they had not proved a success, as the fees received from scholars wore not nearly sufficient to pay the salaries of the instructors. However, he would see what could be done, as if there was one cause more worthy than another it was the looking after the material welfare of our men who had returned from the front in broken health
