RECRUITING SPEECHES

TMHAPE QUOTA OVER SUPPLIED. Following is a telegram received yesterday morning by the Mayor of Taihape (Mr A. L. Arrowsmith) from Mr D. McLaren, of Wellington, and below is given the Mayor’s reply, which speaks for itself. A. L. Arrowsmith, Taihape, — “Addressing meetings for recruiting purposes. Glad to speak Taijiape and other towns up your way. Please advise me if meetings can be arranged for. d. McLaren. Commercial Hotel. D. McLaren, Commercial Hotel, Palmerston North,— Thanks your offer. Defence reports Taihape quota for tenth reinforcements over supplied. Suggest you hold meetings elsewhere, very few slackers here, Should occasion arise later shall be thankful for your assistance, hut do not anticipate men of this district will fail to do their obvious duty. ARROWSMITH, Mayor.
