THE INQUEST. i HAMILTON, Wednesday. • ; Before Mr Rawson, S.M., ;o-day, an inquest was opened on PVto McGee, who died as the result.of injuries sustained by coming in contact with thetablet arm at Taupiri station while ■ leaning from a window cf a" troop train bound from Auckland to Trentham, on Tuesday evening ■ Hyland. the ether injured man, said he was standing on the platform of the carriage -next to the engine, wav--j ing to people on the station when lie was struck by the tablet arm. On entering the carriage he'found McGee lying in a. pool cf blood on the floor.: The inquest was adjourned. T|he tablet in use at Taupiri was recently installed. It is of a new design and wss undergone a trial. Two arms project, which, when released, move—one upwards and the other - downwards. The explanation given by the officials is that on tfhe tablet arm being struck by Hyland. the steelwork bent and jambed against the wooden pillar, and remained fixed. McGee was struck by the bent steelwork, which remained a danger to the whole train, Had others been leaning out, there is. little dcubt that more would [have been injured. •
