TALKIES AT THE LYRIC

OPENING ON WEDNESDAY On Wednesday another Auckland theatre will open its doors as a talkie house. This the Lyric, in Upper Symonds Street, a theatre which in the past has been a particular favourite with Aucklanders. Built originally for the presentation of vaudeville shows, the Lyric has excellent acoustics and should be ideal for talkies. Luring the past few days the theatre has been completely repainted and redecorated and equipped with the latest Western Electric talkie installation. For the opening programme on Wednesday the new management, Messrs. Prentice Bros., Ltd., has secured a particularly fine programme, headed by the drama. “Slightly Scarlet.” The stars of “Slightly Scarlet” are the two popular players, Evelyn Brent and Clive Brook. The story is a sophisticated one of smart Parisian society, beautifully dressed, staged and presented. Good supports will also be presented. The box plan» are now open.
