NO RELIEF LOANS
TRANSPORT BOARD S POSITION MR. ALLUMS STATEMENT From Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. The chairman of tho Auckland Transport Board, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, waited on the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, yesterday, to discuss with him the unemployment situation and to explain the works the board was prepared to carry out in the future. Mr. Allum stated last evening that the Auckland Transport Board had no intention whatever of raising loans to relieve unemployment. He had waited upon the Prime Minister with the sole object of making the board’s position dear on certain proposals which it had in hand, and of inquiring from the Prime Minister whether the Government's offer of assistance covered these works. An appeal had been made for the assistance of local bodies, and it was his desire to understand fully the Government’s position.
