COLLISION ON BRIDGE

TRUCK-DRIVER INJURED

A collision between a passengerladen motor-bus, owned by the Auckland Bus Company, and a light motor-truck, owned by Ernest and Herbert Craig, occurred on the Whau Bridge shortly after 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The only person injured was the driver of the truck, Mr. W. Wells, of Rata Street, New Lynn, who received cuts on the wrist. After receiving medical attention he was able to proceed home. The truck was travelling toward Auckland unit the bus, driven by Mr. L. Laing, of Kotara Avenue, New Lynn, was proceeding in the opposite direction. It is believed that the truck was first on the bridge, and that the driver of the bus tried to stop, but the slippery condition of the road prevented the wheels from gripping. It skidded along the bridge and met the truck in the centre. Both vehicles swung to the side in an endeavour to ;i void a collision, but the bus forced the truck against the railings. Both were locked together, and were only separated after some difficulty. The truck was badly damaged, having its rear left wheel torn off, the sides crushed, and the windscreen smashed. The bus escaped more lightly with a broken axle and a bent right front wheel.
