DOMINION FEARS

PROPOSED EGYPTIAN TREATY “DECISION TOO HASTY” (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 11.56 a.m. LONDON, Thurs. The newspapers give great prominence to Dominion fears about the proposed Egyptian treaty, quoting opinions from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and especially an Australian view that the Empire has been committed too hastily to this decision in Egyptian affairs. The First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. A. V. Alexander, speaking at Hounslow, said: “We are going to see the Suez Canal protected, but we can do that without keeping a heavy armed force in the interior of Egypt.” The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says he understands that the proposed withdrawal of the British troops ancl Air Force to the Suez Canal zone would not necessarily imply any reduction in the total British military and aerial establishments at present in Egypt.
