FOUR OTHERS REMANDED RESULT OF POLICE RAID Press Association HAWERA, Thursday. Five men who were arrested as a I result of the police raids on Saturday ; appeared on remand before Mr. J. H. Salmon. S.M.. in the Police Court this-: i afternoon, on charges under the Gaming Act. Thomas Henderson Teesdule, tea I rooms proprietor, who pleaded guilty to a charge of conducting a common ! gaming house, was fined £SO. The I charge ’against Teesdale. of carrying j on the business of a bookmaker, was I withdrawn. ] Herbert Allen, billiards room keeper, j was charged with carrying on the | business of a bookmaker, with keepi ing a common gaming house, and with ! loitering in a street for the purpose of i betting. j William Elder was charged with j assisting in the management of a | gaming house. ; Thomas Connell and Edward Lavery i were charged with being found in a j gaming house. | All the men but Teesdale pleaded not guilty, and were remanded to July ! 31, on bail of £3OO each.
