RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM
“WIDECOMBE FAIR” A rural comedy such as “Widecombe Fair” should not fail to meet with universal approval. Pictoriaily, the picture surpasses any American, Continental or British picture made today.” This is the verdict of the British Press on “Widecombe Fair,” adapted from Eden Philpott’s novel, which is now at the Rialto and Regent (Epsom) Theatres. The beautiful country and villages surrounding Dartmoor offered many opportunities for the excellent photography. Cockington Mill, in the parish of Widecombe, was the location for scenes used in connection with the film. It is a charming rural spot, and arrangements were made with the South Devon Hunt to hold a special meet there, which was introduced into the picture. Marguerite Allen, William Freshman, and Wyndham Standing have the three principal roles in the film. “Secret Orders.” which is the title of the second picture, is an exciting wartime drama starring Evelyn Brent.
