With a. basis of players from ihema Auckland Club, and a number of prom isms new players the club at Devon: port is now well established is held weekly on Friday evenings in what is undoubtedly one of the * b Badminton halls in Auckland tK Misses Harty. who participated in the hrst New Zealand championship tour nament at Wanganui two veals a /n' are prominent in the clubs plavSe strength. The new club playing in sf James Hall has adopted the name ""of Central, and under that title has joined up With the New Zealand Association Central has a promising-looking mem' bersliip roll, and i.s players are keen The addition of this club should add Intel est to future inter—club engage ments. Tho association has had word from Napier, the club there having duly affiliated. Borne Napier players ' will probably come North for the New Zealand championships. Dr. ilarvcv Gardner and Bradley are the best of their men, while Mrs. Hetlev, of course is holder ol a couple of New Zealand titles, and at one tun. was among the best players in England. The Mangere Club :s now calling itself the Northern, a id is passing its former name on to the other club using tho same hall. Northern has already a list of inter-club matches to bo played. During the week an exchange of visits was inaugurated between Northern and Parnell. Miss Eliott. Miss Solomon and Eliott and Kisslingcame in to Parnell, while Langguth, Tonks, McFarlane and Philson went to Mangere. Much benefit should result from these interchanges. J. Kelly, the Parnell player, sprained his ankle badly in a double at St. Mary's last Monday. This will perhaps help to dispose of they idea that Badminton is no more strenuous than ping-pong. Discussion already centres on the arrangement of doubles combinations for the New Zealand championships. Kelly is to play with Miss Ellett in the combineds, while C. Ellett will pair with Miss Solomon. Both these pairs will be formidable. Some of the other Mangere women, including the Misses Waters (2) are sure to be in demand as they have been well coached in the tactics of the game. Miss Craig (Napier) is another capable woman player, but at present she is in Sydney, and may not be getting any Badminton.
