FARMERS PLEASED

RAIN WILL REVIVE PASTURES

Following; th© dull and very oppressive weather experienced during the past week or so the break in the weather experienced last night was particularly welcome. Even th© city dweller, who is not greatly concerned with the dryness of the pastures, was beginning to sigh for rain. In the country it was urgently needed to check the decreased dairy returns experienced during the past few weeks.

In the city no great inconvenience was caused as a result of the drought. Lawns and gardens were certainly showing signs of wear and hoses were in constant use, but the city water supply had not been seriously affected. In some districts, Opotiki in particular, the reservoirs were getting very low, and in districts where residents have to rely on tank water the situation was commencing to get serious. In the Waikato and Whangarei districts the rain was particularly welcome. Pastures and root crops had fallen off considerably, but following the heavy showers yesterday and during last night, dairy returns should show an immediate increase.
