TUDOR, REMUERA
“THE STUDENT PRINCE” “The picture, “The Student Prince” is a brilliant success, and is another instance of a screen version, produced on a truly magnificent scale, proving more popular than the stage play. This photo-play, which sets entirely new standards of beauty, pageantry and enthralling entertainment, commences at the Tudor Cinema, Remuera, this evening. , “The Student Prince” is a story the world loves; a story that has been played in every corner of the world — and as a screen play it makes history. Ramon Novarro and Nonna Shearer have added a new triumph to the screen as a whole, and have given the silent drama a new classic. The settings are gorgeous. The Heidelberg garden, with the huge castle frowning clown upon it from the hills in the distance and a whole town laid out along the banks of the river beyond, are most elaborate pieces of scenic construction. “SORRELL AND SON” AT GRAND “Sorrell and Son,” the tremendous and pathetic story of a father’s love for his son, will be shown again this evening at the Grand Theatre. After the World War, Captain Step* hen Sorrell finds himself back in London, broken in health, without work, deserted by his pleasure-loving wife, and with his small son to rear. In a last resort, Sorrell grasps at a chance to become assistant to a village antique dealer. With his boy he sets out, determined that he will take even a pitiful wage in order to educate the boy. They reach the village, only to find the antique dealer dead—and no job. This seems the last straw, and Sorrell contemplates giving up altogether. But the thought of the boy and the latter’s abiding trust in him nerves Sorrell to solicit a job as man-ot-all-work at the shabby Anchor Inn. “The Cardboard Lover,” starring Marion Davies, is the second feature.
