WAIUKU ACTIVITIES

CARNIVAL AND COMPETITIONS A queen carnival to raise funds to provide for a tennis court and other improvements to the grounds of the Waiuku Central School resulted in Miss Gwen Cameron. 8,309 votes, being elected queen, Miss Elaine Barriball, 6,953 votes, being second, and Miss Beth McNaughton, 3,303 votes, third. It is expected that when the coronation is held to-night about £SO will be in hand for the work desired to be completed. Musical and elocutionary competitions between the pupils of the Waiuku school and the schools of the surrounding districts were held on Friday and Saturday, and were well patronised. The competitions were promoted by Mr. W. S. Bridle, the object being to raise funds to purchase typewriters for the Waiuku District High School. Mrs. A.
