RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS

FEW NOMINATIONS Press Association WELLINGTON, Thursday. There is a dearth of candidates for tho Rhodes Scholarships this year. Wellington is not nominating, and though Canterbury had five candidates, most are too old since the age was altered to 21, and it may, indeed, have none. The two nominees put forward by Otago are Mr. F. M. Hanan, the younger son of the Hon. J. A- Han«n. M.L.C., and Mr. W. E. Henley. Auckland’s candidates have not yet been announced.

Rhodes Scholarships, it is said, are not so keenly sought after as before the age limit was altered, and the throe years’ residence at Oxford is also a hindrance. Travelling scholarships are preferred.
