STUNT CYCLIST FINED

rode without holding DID NOT REMEMBER (From Our Own Correspondent) PAPAKURA, To-day. A motor-cyclist named Frank Merrett, who travelled on the Great South Road, Papakura, on January 2 with both hands off the handle-bars of his cycle, pleaded guilty in the Papakura Police Court to-day to a charge of negligent driving. Inspector White said he watched defendant pass the whole length of the speed trap with his hands off the bars, and he maintained this attitude until out of sight. Several cars were passing in the opposite direction. llerrett said he had no recollection of the occurrence, but said he presumed that if charged he must have ridden as described. “Evidently a stunt,” commented Mr. Luxford, S.M.. and warned Merrett that such behaviour raised the question as to whether lis licence should not be cancelled. A penalty totalling £2 including costs wa simposed.
