A Review for Business Men
ON THE ’CHANGE HEALTHY BUSINESS TARANAKI OILS FIRMER Taranaki Oils improved again this morning from a sale yesterday afternoon at 10s 3d to be done at 11s at the early call. The call closed with buyers offering 11s, but at mid-day the market moved back to buyers 10s 9d, sellers 11s 6d. Business in most sections is quiet, but there is a healthy tone on the market, and most quotations remain unaltered. In coals, Pukemiros continue to meet with a firm demand and were done this morning at 60s. New Zealand Breweries (debentures) are active and sales are reported at 23s Bd. Mining continues weak and practically idle. Banks are in good tone, with a firm demand for Commercials of Australia and New Zealands. MINING NEWS OCCIDENTAL UNA. —The manager reports: “The crosscut to intersect the No. 1 reef has been advanced eight feet for the week. The country is still good, of a hard nature, and first class for making gold. The qiAirtz we cut in the rise is only a portion of the No. 1 reef, but the main portion, which is in the footwall, should be at hand this week. Stoping operations have been started on the dropper and the quartz broken shows nice dabs of gold.” ALBURN I A. —The manager reports:— “Driving north on the dropper has been extended from 30ft. to 40ft. The leader here is now slightly smaller, its average width being absut 18 inches. The general indications here indicate that good values may be met with, some of the quartz broken showing arsenical pryirtes. Driving south on the ‘Sons of Freedom’ has been continued, the distance driven for the week being 10ft., making a total distance of 34ft to date. We are now carrying the footwall portion and centre rib of the reef in the drive. The footwall portion continues to be about 12 inches in width, the centre rib being from Gin. to 9in. A little gold is still seen in the footwall at each breaking down. The hanging wall portion which is left on the western wall is a nice compact body of ore about 15 inches wide, and we anticipate that as the drive advances south this will junction with the ore bodies we are driving on.” Butter and Cheese. —Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., report receipt of a cable from their London principals reading as follows: “Butter, 174 s to 1765; market firmer. Cheese, 98s; market quiet.”
