“ROUGH RIDES”
LAUGHTER AND TEARS Paramount’s “The Rough Riders” to a tribute to Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, who got together a band of riflemen whom he called “Rough Riders.” and charged up a hill called San Juan with them—afterwards being elected President of the United States of America. So much for history—and it’s all in the picture, but theie is something else besides history! Soul-stirring reality and heartthrobbing fiction are beautifully woven together. The romance of the two soldiers and sweet Dolly Gray* whom both love, is one of the most charming and unusual that has ever been filmed. And marvellous work the three do; in fact, did for one of them. Charles Emmet Mack was killed in an automobile accident just after the completion of the picture in which he had the big Tole of his short career. Directed by Victor Flemming, others in the cast include Frank Hopper* Charles Farrell, Alary Astor, Noah Beery and George Bancroft.
