TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
At the meeting of the committee of the Feilding Technical School last night the Director reported that the increase in the number in the shorthand and typing class was such as to compel the forming of an extra class. At the Friday courses for country students, there were students from Bunnythorpe, Awahuri, Sanson, Halcombe, and Cheltenham. On the 36th Jnly 15 candidates sat for the First Aid examination, conducted by Dr. Livesay, and all passed well. The school had lost the services of Mr Kingdom, the plumbing “ instructor, owing to his removal to Masterton. He had proved himself competent, energetic and painstaking In his work. The new term had opened well, especially in respect to commercial subjects. Raetihi had made a splendid beginning with a roll number of 96, Huntervlle with 44, Glen Oroua 55, Kangiwabia the same number, Feilding 536, Apiti 77, Pohangina 19, Ashhurst 7, Bunnythorpe 6, Halcombe 5, Marton 88. Ohakune had to yet been put on a proper footing. The Committee resolyed to send Mr Kingdom a letter expressing its appreciation of his capable instruction of his class. , Ths Director was requested to write to the Agricultural Department and ask that a poultry expert be sent to give a lecture at Feilding It was decided also that the Science Master at Palmerston be asked whether he will undertake the instruction of a class on electricity. Mr Pearson, Feilding Borough plumbing expert, was appointed teacher of the plumbing class. There has been discussion from time to time on the advisability of carrying on technical classes through the day as well as the night, that is to make the Technical School a day school. With a view of obtaining accurate information on the matter it was decided to request the Director of the Wanganui Technical School to meet the Committee next month', and that the Committees of the two day schools be asked to attend.
