ADVANCE OF THE FRENCH. DESPERATE BATTLE AT THIAUMONF. Received August 9, 10.80 a.m. [ Paris. August 8, A French commmunique states that co-operating with British on our left in the attack on Guillemont, we advanened eastward of Hill 139, northward of Hardeconrt, Two German counter attacks on Monacn Farm failed. We stopped successive strong German attacks at Fleul-y and Thiaumont Works, a heavy bombardment from our rear and onr machine guns causing great losses. The Germans penetrated Thiaumont Work after a furious fight, which continues. GRAVES OF THE BRITISH. A FRENCH UNDERTAKING. ASSURANCE OP INVIOLABILITY Received Aug. 9, 9.4 a.m. Paris, Aug. 8. The French Parliament has passed a law assuring the inviolability of graves of English killed in France,
