SHIPPING ACCIDENTS.
Per Press Association Wellington, February 15. The PutakJ, which arrived from Lyttelton tins morning, had a mishap to her machinery at 3 a.m yesterday, when, the two low-pressure slide valve spindles broke. By 230 p.m. temporary repairs enabled the voyage to ha resumed. The Mararoa passed her in the morning, but did not see her distress signals. When the Mararoa returned in the afternoon the repairs had been effected, ana no assistance was required. The local manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company has been informed by cable from London that the Rakaia, which left London on the 4th inst., returned to port with a damaged steam pipe.
