THE MARKETS.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Per Press Association. Wellington, February 15. Following is the cablegram from -the High Commissioner, dated 13th February;— I The mptton market is depressed. There is dull sale of all qualities and there is an'inclination to force sales of mutton on account of River Plate shipments which are likely to increase. Canterbury mutton is quoted at North Island There has been no alteration in the., lamb market since last week. . The beef market is weak. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. Current quotations: New Zealand, hindquarters forequarters 2%d. The butter market is quiet with a tendency in favour of buyers. Buyers are holding back expecting prices to go lower and are buying only what is necessary. Prices are lar. Quotations: Choicest New Zeaand Australian 106 s, Danish 118 s, Siberian 130 s. | The cheese is quiet but steady. There is a brisk demand for coloured makes (owing to short supply) which are quoted at 625. White makes are quoted at 60s. The hemp market is quiet with small business doing. Current quotations : Good fair grade on spot £34 10s, fair current Manila on spot £2B 10s a ton. Forward shipments are unchanged. Last week’s Manila output amounted to 31,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is very uncertain and there is scarcely any demand. The wheat market remains firm: The oat market is steady with very good demand. Beans, the market is firm with more enquiry.
Peas, the market is quiet and prices slightly weaker.
