ST. THOMAS’ CHURCH, SAMSON.

The annual meeting of parishioners of above church was held on Friday, 15th inst. There was a fair attendance, the Rev. H. Wilson being in the chair. The minutes of the last "annual meeting having been read and confirmed the report and balance-sheet for year ending 31st March was read. This showed a credit balance of £2B 17s 5d and was considered highly satisfactory. The election of officers was then proceeded with. Mr S. George was recommended for the position of Vicar’s warden; Mr G. Mason was elected parishioners’ churchwarden. The following were elected as a vestry:—Messrs J. H. Perrett, Drew, Robinson, J. A. Wilson, Morse, and Verry. F, Anderson was elected auditor subject to his acceptance. It was resolved that Mr J. H. Perrett be nominated as lay representative on the Synod for the ensuing three years. The Rev. H. Wilson announced that Mr K. Drew had consented to act as Lay Reader in the Jchurch once a month, and as Mr G. Williams has also consented to act in the same position this will ensure our church being opened for public worship every Sunday. Votes of thanks were passed to the Sunday School teachers (Misses Harris), Mrs Hill, collector general church fund, James Penny for his services as Lay Reader; Mr G. Williams, organist; Mr E. Morse for donation of posts; Mr K. Drew for auditing accounts, and to the churchwardens (Messrs S. George and G. Mason) for their services during the past year. Mr J. H. Perrett, in moving a hearty vote of thanks to Rev. H. Wilson, said he wished to express the warmest thanks of the parishioners for his valuable services to the parish during the time they had been without a clergyman. He conld assure him that his services were very acceptable to the parishioners, and their only regret was that they conld not retain him permanently. The Rev. H. Wilson, in replying, said he deeply appreciated the kind expression of feeling shown towards him by the parishioners, but the sacrifice was not altogether his, it belonged rather to the Rongotea people who had consented to allow himfto carry on the work in Sandon district, and as their financial position was not a strong one they wished that meeting to appoint a deputation to meet their vestry in order to come to some financial arrangement during the time he was working in the district. The suggestion was favourably received and it was decided to appoint a deputation as requested. A vote of thanks to the Rev. Wilson for presiding terminated the meeting.
