FEILDING A. & P. ASSCIATION.
The animal report of above to bepresented at the annual meeting oil Friday is as follows : Autumn Show. —The second twoday’s show was held on the 4th and sth February, 1908, and, taken as a whole, can be considered very satisfactory. There was a very large attendance of the public on the second day, but the gate receipts did not seem proportionate to the estimated number of persons present, the financial results being a great disappointment to your committee. The entries were slightly leas than last year, but that is easily accounted for by the very dry weather experienced for a considerable period previous to the show. The quality generally was very good, and this was especially so in the dairy cattle classes. Sheep, although not so numerous as last year, showed a vast improvement in quality. Ram Fair.—Representatives of your committee arranged with the Manawatu Auctioneers’ Association to receive a percentage of the entry fees this year, a few pounds being netted from this source. Your committee are of opinion that holding the ram fair immediately after the show is beneficial alike to the auctioneers and this Association: School Gardens. —Eleven schools entered for competition in this class, and the judges (Messrs Mayo and Weightman) report a great improvement in the gardens this year. They suggest that flowers be added as a competitive subject, and have offered special prizes in that connection. Finance.—The position of the Association, as may be seen by the balance-sheet, is very satisfactory. The sum of £194 19s 3d has been expended on permanent . improvements and plant this year, and the Association has now pens and accommodation which, it is hoped, will last for a number of years without any additional expense being incurred. Assets show £B4B 8s 7d over liabilities, of which £614 9s lOd is for permanent yards and pens. Donations have fallen off about £SO, but sfeiH the item £382 15s is a very liberal and welcome addition to the Association’s funds, and your committee wish to heartily thank those who contributed. Members’ subscriptions have increased by £3B, and the amount realised for entry fees is practically on a par with last year. Judges.—The Association has again been fortunate in securing competent judges for stock, etc. Past experience has shown the advisability of continuing to secure judges from the South Island for fafc stock classes. Your committee wish to place on record their appreciation of the very painstaking manner in which the judges transacted their business. Thanks.—Your committee wish to heartily thank the junior stewards who assisted at the show. Many of them came a long distance, and all gave valuable time willingly, contributing, in no small measure, to the successful handling of all classes of stock, etc. Your committee also wish to heartily thank those who donated trophies for competition, and all who in any way assisted to make the show a success.
The Secretary.—Your committee wisn to place on record their appreciation of the services of the secretary. His office has been freely given for meetings of subcommittees, etc., and every detail of work in his department has been carefully attended to. Retiring Members of Committee. ■ In accordance with the rules of the Association the following members of General Committee retire this year: Messrs W. E. Baber, W. T. Bo water. J. Bruce. F. F.
