BRITISH POLITICS.
AN INDEPENDENT MEMBER. Press Asssociation —Copyright. London, May 18. Mr S. H. Whitbread, member for Huntingdon, addressing his constituents with regard to the Licensing Bill, said the Bill was neither moderate nor rational, and he must oppose it. This was contrary to the pledge given to his constituents, and theiefore he was prepared at any moment to resign. He added; “lam not a Chinese cheap labourer. I decline to be kept in a compound, and let out to vote exactly as I am told.” The Liberal Executive of Huntingdon recently asked Mr Whitbread to retain his seat, and released him from his undertaking in reference to the Bill.
The Central Unemployed Body in Britain has recommended the creation of a State Department to organise labour exchanges.
