BAILIFFS AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS.
A POINT OF LAW,
Press Association
• Napier, May 13. The question of whether’a Government servant while employed in a Government building is immune from the embarrassing attentions of a bailiff arfned with a judgment summons came up at Court. A judgment debtor was employed |in the Railway Workshops and the Court bailiff who had gone to serve a summons on those premises had been put off by the manager of the works. The Magistrate said he had considered it his duty to report the matter to the Minister for Justice as he was not going to have the officials of the Court treated with discourtesy. The impression prevails that Government servants cannot be served with writs while engaged at their business and the decision of the Minister on the point should prove of some value.
