THE COST OF LIVING.
FAMILY BUDGETS. In accordance with the promise given in the leader we offer the following budget (which may bo referred to as Budget A) of the weekly expenses of a family, consisting of a man and wife and two children, aged three years and 13 months. The man’s wages are £8 per week. The accounts are for one week and it has therefore been necessary to average the cost of some articles. Thus for example though butter is now selling at Is 4d per lb the average price for the year is not above Is Id. Mr A grows a few vegetables and keeps poultry.
