PREFERENCE TO EMPLOYEES. NOT LEGAL. Press Association. Oamaru, February 6. Feeling has run high in Oamaru during the past few days in regard to the indiscriminate granting of preference for Otekaike to R. Campbell & Son’s employees. The Oamaru Mail to-day publishes the following telegram from Sir J. Ward to the Hon. G. Jones, who has been interr esting in the matter:— “Otekaike)' estate. —As a result of the advice oijlaw advisers the attention of Otago' Land Board has been called to the fact that apparently its recommendation is outside the Statute and will have to be reconsidered.” Wellington, February 6. The Otekaike estate in North Otago recently acquired by Government for closer settlement has been subdivided into 49 sections and 29,925 acres offered for selection on 33 years renewable lease. The Post states that to date over 900 applications have been received for 49 ; sections and no less than 700 different individuals will take part in the ballot.
